Joseph Poling, Pharm.D., grew up in Loveland, Colorado, and received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Wyoming. He began his career with Good Day in 2012 as a staff pharmacist and was quickly promoted in 2013 to pharmacy manager at Good Day Pharmacy’s Loveland, Colorado location. Each year a Colorado publication known as BizWest holds its ‘Women of Distinction’ awards to honor leading women in business, government, and nonprofits who enrich Colorado with their leadership, entrepreneurship, and mentorship. On Thursday, August 26th, Good Day Pharmacy CEO, Vicki Einhellig, was honored along with ten other women at this year’s awards program. The Women of Distinction selection committee received more than 130 worthy nominations.

Vicki Einhellig, who came to Good Day in 1992 to work alongside her cousin and business owner, David Lamb, said during her award speech that she would not be where she is today had he not taken a chance on her. Vicki became the pharmacy manager at Good Day’s Loveland location in 1993, COO in 1996, and now CEO as of 2019. She also stated during her speech that she owes much of her success to her talented and hard-working team, but her team admits that Vicki is more deserving of this award than she realizes. “Pharmacists are the most accessible health professional, and these past 1.5 years, Vicki did everything humanly possible to...

Last month, Kelsey Schwander, PharmD, and Clinical Specialist for Good Day Pharmacy, joined several other knowledgeable pharmacist and healthcare speakers at the Multiple Location Conference hosted by the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). The event is the premier gathering of community pharmacy multi-store owners and was held in Fort Myers, Florida. Session topics were formulated to educate and sharpen skills on managing the complex business of multiple store ownership, and how to discover new service and business growth opportunities.

Since Dr. Schwander and four Good Day Pharmacy locations are participating in a national independent pharmacy movement called “Flip the Pharmacy,” Kelsey was asked to speak about how to implement enhanced patient care services (for example: travel health, hormonal contraception prescribing, smoking cessation prescribing, naloxone, strep and flu testing) that will transform pharmacies into a more patient care focus, instead of a prescription dispensing only model. The goal of Flip the Pharmacy is to “move beyond filling...

How Good Day Pharmacy will impact opioid awareness, addiction, and naloxone dispensing in Colorado.

In the midst of the opioid crisis, Colorado-based Good Day Pharmacy continues to battle the ongoing opioid use disorder from a few different angles. The independent pharmacy chain has empowered its team with education and training on naloxone dispensing, naloxone use, and how to counsel patients and start the “opioid management discussion.”

Good Day decided in the fall of 2015 that it would begin educating patients about the life-saving drug, naloxone, which comes in the following variations: Naloxone (generic injection), Narcan® (brand name naloxone nasal spray), and Evzio® (brand name autoinjector). “It was astonishing how many of our patients didn’t know naloxone existed, and also didn’t know that being on an opioid put them at higher risk of overdose,” said Karen Price, Good Day Pharmacy Marketing Director. Patients were educated via signage and brochures in all ten Good Day Pharmacies, through the company’s patient newsletter, and via social media...

It’s about to get easier to quit smoking in Colorado.

People now can skip the doctor’s office and go straight to a pharmacy to get prescription medication — pills, nasal sprays and inhalers — to help them quit smoking. The new statewide prescription protocol is the second in Colorado, following approval last year for pharmacists to prescribe birth-control pills and patches.

Both protocols are possible through a 2016 state law that allowed the state Health Department, along with the state boards of medicine, pharmacy and nursing, to expand access to commonly used medications.

Pharmacists who want to prescribe the anti-smoking drugs must take a three-hour online training, which went live last week. Coloradans who want to move on from over-the-counter nicotine gum, patches and lozenges to try prescription smoking-cessation medication can get the drugs at participating pharmacies after completing a questionnaire and a consultation — no appointment required.

Good Day Pharmacy has achieved many recent successes, including celebrating 30 years in business, and the opening of a new Longmont, Colorado pharmacy. Now the successful independently owned pharmacy chain has been identified as “Best In Class” by OutcomesMTM® for providing medication therapy management services (MTM). The Best In Class designation means that Good Day Pharmacies in Eaton, Ft. Collins (at Sprouts Farmers Market), and Wellington have each achieved the rank of top 15% of all MTM centers in the U.S. And another huge triumph for the locally owned company, Good Day Pharmacy at Heritage Market in Eaton, Colorado, is ranked number 1 in Colorado. Good Day Pharmacy Manager, Allisen Cole, and her team have helped create a successful process for MTM, escalating them to the top team in Colorado.

Medication therapy management (MTM) has become a main focus at Good Day, and is a service that not all pharmacies offer. In a volume‐oriented industry that seems somewhat monopolized by mail order “telephone” pharmacies, personal face‐to‐face service and clinical advice is not...
