The flu has come to Colorado! The CDC reports that cases of influenza in the state are now “widespread.” (See weekly influenza surveillance report, http://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/usmap.htm ). What’s the easiest way to reduce your risk of getting flu, aside from a flu shot? Hand washing! If you start feeling the symptoms of the influenza virus coming on (see the CDC website http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/disease/symptoms.htm for the full list of symptoms), a prompt visit to a healthcare provider within 48 hours is needed if you want to start antiviral medication treatment. Most cases will resolve within 2 weeks, but some people with other conditions (asthma, congestive heart failure, or immune suppression, for instance) may be at higher risk for complications such as pneumonia, bronchitis, ear infections, or worsening of chronic conditions. Call your healthcare provider or your Good Day Pharmacist if you have questions or concerns, and thank you for letting us take care of your medication needs!
