Tdap offers protection from tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) all in one vaccine. Tdap is recommended for adults who have never had Tdap, adults 65 and older who expect to have close contact with an infant younger than 12 months, healthcare workers under 65 who have direct patient contact, and new mothers who have never gotten Tdap should receive a dose as soon as possible after delivery. When was the last time you had a tetanus shot?
If it has been 2 or more years since you or a family member has updated their tetanus vaccination, the CDC is recommending a Tdap booster protecting against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) to help decrease incidence of outbreaks across the country for ages 11 and up in most cases. Talk to your pharmacist or healthcare provider for more information.
